Excalibur Charters

Welcome to Eastbourne and our angling/diving website where we believe we offer you a better chartering experience than that of our competitors.

Our vessel is located at Sovereign Harbour, Northern Harbour, Eastbourne on the Sussex coast.

Our boat charters are operated by Skippers Barry Domsalla & Lance Brown who have fished the area off Eastbourne for some 30 years.

We offer you the opportunity to experience and enjoy Deep Sea Fishing and Diving aboard this fully Yellow Coded M.C.A licensed, fast and comfortable well equipped twin engined Blythe 33 catamaran hull vessel. This licence gives us the opportunity to range up to 60 miles from a safe haven, be that on either the English or French Coasts.

We also offer a further range of extra services as our vessel possesses a M.C.A Brown Code Workboat Licence.

Barry Domsalla and Lance Brown are full time professional skippers who both hold a M.C.A. Boatman's Licence Yachtmaster Offshore Certificate Of Service.

The vessel "EXCALIBUR 111" is registered with the M.C.A under the Yellow Code of Practice Category 2 which allows the vessel to operate 60 miles from a safe haven and also the M.C.A Brown Code of Practice for Workboats.

Both Skippers hold R.Y.A Yachtmaster Offshore Certificate of Service, V.H.F Radio, First Aid and Sea Survival Certificates.

Both have been sea fishing in the local waters off Eastbourne for over thirty years, and have gained invaluable knowledge of this area.

They are always more than happy to offer advice and tuition to novices that require it and to experts who wish to learn new techniques. Your never to old to learn new tricks.

"EXCALIBUr 111" is a Blythe 33 Catamaran, which is a purpose built charter vessel offering a large fishing or working area of over 400 sq. ft.

Clients also have the benefit of a large under cover shelter offering seating for 12 people in comfort should the weather turn unpleasant.

Our boat is powered by 2 x Perkins Sabre turbo diesel engines each pumping out 215HP which give us a comfortable cruising of 20 knots. Two engines give us added security should one suffer a malfunction and we can always make port under our own power.

Being a catamaran designed hull she is vastly more comfortable than conventional boats, with a beam of nearly 17 feet and fishing space down either side of 27 feet, which offers unrivalled stability and space. This is great when drift fishing as it reduces possible tangles.

She is fully licenced and insured for twelve anglers + two crew and carries both the full MCA Yellow Code of Practice to operate 60 miles from a safe haven, and also has the added benefit of Brown Code of Practice for Workboats, which allows it to operate for other commercial duties that include carrying light cargo.

For electronics we has the very latest instruments which includes three independent DGPS navigation systems, a computerised plotting system, a large screen radar, two large screen colour fish finders and three V.H.F. radios for added security.

As the vessel operates under the M.C.A Code of Practice it carries two liferafts, lifejackets for all the persons on board, two sea survival rings with attached lighted sea floats and throwing lines. A statutory M.C.A first aid kit is also carried.

Our vessel carries a full Marine Insurance policy for bodily injury or accident to passengers on board, and is covered for a minimum of £2,000,000 in respect of any one incident.

A toilet is provided for the ladies.

Free tea and coffee is supplied as required.

Under our MCA Licence requirement our vessel is inspected on regular intervals. To ensure our vessel is kept in tip top condition it is removed from the water at intervals to carry out hull maintenance etc.

Our services include wreck/ground sea angling and wreck/reef diving, pleasure trips such as site seeing, bird watching, educational trips and unusual requests like "hen nights".

Unlike angling & diving, some of these other services we perform are usually just a few hours duration, but can be varied in time to suit individual requirements.

Our vessel may also be chartered for work such as photographic and filming, safety boat for marine events, survey duties, inspections & recoveries and water sampling management. As a M.C.A Brown Code Workboat Licenced vessel we may also be used to carry light cargo to offshore vessels etc.

Recent workboat duties include the filming of a documentary for Channel 4 Time Team, and a new war movie to be titled U-555.

Bring sunscreen, sunglasses and a cap.
Wear Boat or Water Proof Shoes with none slip soles. Cheap Wellington Boots can sometimes be a problem as the soles do not grip to well.

You may see these chaps in the channel. They always make a good photograph. You just never know you may even come across a whale!

If you are prone to seasickness take a seasickness remedy the night before and 1hr before arriving at the boat. We recommend Stugeron Tablets which are available from any Pharmacy. They are non drowsy.

Wear of bring seasonal clothing i.e. Light rain gear. Always bring warm extra clothing in case you should get wet.

Do not over indulge (DRINK ALCOHOL) the night before the trip, nothing's worse than a spoilt day due to induced illness.

Bring plenty of food and beverages. We have a oven to warm food and we provide a bottomless cup of tea.

Lastly bring a cooler for your fish if you wish to take fish home. Make sure it contains plenty of ice to keep your catch in tip top condition. Fillet your fish at sea if it's not to rough, pack into a plastic bag zip loc bag and put into your iced cooler.
